connecting to server outside network
ISP. I'm using the dts wizard. For the source, I put in the IP address of our
ih-house server. When I click "refresh" to get a list of the databases I get
this error:
Error source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server
Error Description: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does
not exist or access denied.
Context: Error during intialiaztion of the provider.
I am able to ping the in-house sever from the ISP server. I can log in to
the in-house using query analyzer and the login and password that I'm putting
in the dts wizard.
Any idea what might be wrong?
Thanks,

Dan D.Problem solved. It was a setting in our firewall.

Connecting to Analysis Services
I have analysis services running on a server in our internet datacentre
(servers are colocated at an ISP). It is working fine with no problems
whatsoever. I can also manage it fine when I terminal onto the box.
However, the problems start when I try to mange the server from my local
machine at work. There is a VPN setup between my work and the datacentre.
All the servers are on a different subnet at the datacenter.
This works fine for managing SQL server on the same machine with enterprise
manager. However, when I try to connect to analysis services using Analysis
Manager, I get the following error when trying to register:
Errors occurred while trying to connect to 10.2.1.2
Cannot open connection to Analsysis Server '10.2.1.2'
Error in data [Possible data corruption]"
Do you still want to register this server?
What in the world is going on? Maybe it has something to do with the fact
that Analsysis Server doesn't have 'SQL Authentication' and thus its a
security issue since my Windows cridentials aren't being passed/accepted
since those servers are all standalone?
Please help!
thanks in advance,
-ZD

Connecting Server Management Studio to a database on remote server
To use the front end tools in SQL Manager on the database at my ISP I want to connect directly from Server Management Studio ( Or Server explorer i VS). I have enabled TCP/IP without succes.
My installation is based on SQL Server Developer Edition and VS 2005. With my previos installation based on Express versions of the product this worked fine.
In VS 2005 I select Tools -> Connect to database and fill inn the dialog window with the serveraddress (sql01.active24.com), username and password. I then get the following message:An errror has occurd while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the fefault settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named pipes, errror: 40 - Could not opeen a connection to SQL Server
In the network configuration I have now disabled Named Pipes and enabled TCP/IP.
Thanks in advance!
Andreas
Open the Surface Area Configuration (SAC) tool, and enable remote connections. By default the developer edition has all that turned off.

Connect via SSH in SqlServer 2005
Sorry for the newbie question, but...
My ISP provides a connection using an SSH connection. Their documentation
is using Enterpirse Manager, but I cannot figure out how to do the same thing
using Sql Server 2005.
If anybody could point me to a link, or has any advice...
Thanks,
PAGates
In their documentation you should see something referring too port
forwarding. You will need to change this to the port SQL Server 2005
Management Studio uses instead of the one Enterprise Manager uses.
